Jai Kumar

‣ Neglected and abused in childhood. Ostracized by his family. His uncle was the main antagonist but other adults contributed.‣ His two brothers (triplets) mistreat him by proxy.‣ Worked in a traveling theater on the coasts of India.‣ His mother dies. No father is mentioned.‣ He is inspired by Raavan to seek revenge.‣ He burns down their traveling theater and assumes his two brothers die in the fire.‣ He is taken under the wing of Kaakha and runs the streets and starts a gang, taking on the alter ego 'Raavan'. He smuggles coal, murders those that oppose him and aids political corruption.‣ He is partially responsible for the death of one of his men. This man's sister, Simran, seeks revenge by stabbing Jai in the back. Jai is infatuated with her immediately.‣ He decides to run for MP in opposition of a corrupt politician he once aided (Sarkar).‣ He realizes he isn't liked or charismatic enough for the campaign trail.‣ He discovers his brothers are still alive and steals money from Kusa and kidnaps Lava's love interest Priya. He also kidnaps his brothers and brings them to his home.‣ Jai plans to have his brothers act as him in both politics (Lava) and his love interest Simran (Kusa).‣ Lava does well but Kusa plans with Simran to fool Jai. Simran plans to poison Jai. Jai discovers this and starts to fall apart.‣ Jai forces his brothers to reenact a drama with him. This brings up emotions and apologies. Jai refuses to forgive his brothers.‣ Jai plans to send his brothers to Sarkar to be killed. He assumes they do not know when they leave willingly. Kaakha reveals they do.‣ Realizing their sacrifice, Jai shows up to save them, sacrificing himself in the process.‣ In canon, Jai dies, in this universe he will heal from his wounds and go into hiding in Rangasthalam with his brothers. The story itself starts nearly a year before 'Jai, Lava, Kusa' when he meets Cherry.‣ Conditioned to reject love. Refuses vulnerability to protect himself.‣ Is deeply lonely. Grapples with guilt over killing his brothers.‣ Assumes he doesn't deserve love, inhabits an identity people can hate. Re-traumatizes himself. A monster of his abusers creation.

Cherry (Charan)

‣ Watched his mother and father murdered at the age of 10. He is poor and low caste.‣ His father dies and his mother needs an operation to survive.‣ Cherry's uncle convinces him to confess to the crime of a politician's son in exchange for payment for his mother's medical care.‣ He spent 12 years in juvenile prison.‣ He has nightmares about his parents death.‣ His uncle never visits him and he finds out after prison that she died. So his prison time was a waste.‣ He finds out the man who murdered his parents is in Bangkok (Mattu Bhai).‣ He takes a job from his uncle as a tour guide in Thailand.‣ He meets a girl at home who eventually utilizes his tour company in Thailand. She is rich and spoiled. He falls in love with her but she treats him horribly.‣ It all accumulates to a scene on a boat where he decides to leave and return to India. In canon he ends up staying with her but in the AU he does leave.‣ It is revealed in the canon his mother is alive and his uncle lied, keeping her operation money. He has been treated terribly by all the people he loves (except his parents)‣ Prison hardened him. He was bullied and realized adults can be cruel too.‣ He developed a hardened stare. Numerous people comment on how it makes them uncomfortable. This could be a result of poor socialization skills from a childhood spent in the system or how he processes his rage and more complex emotions in the moment.‣ He is generally polite and kind to elders/strangers but can flip a switch when people are cruel to him or others. He respects the authority of older men when he feels they have earned it.‣ He despises disrespect but doesn't feel entitled to anything he hasn't earned or a false sense of authority.‣ He falls in love fast and hard. He idealizes those he falls for without really knowing them. He trusts a bit too easily. This makes him naive. This may shift once he leaves the boat, having been hurt by this naive loving nature. This love can border on obsessive and co-dependent - again this is something that he may learn to temper once he leaves the boat. Very romantic and sentimental. His love language is big intimate gestures.‣ Some of his naivety might be rooted in being in the system for so long, he asks his roommate silly questions as he is not accustomed to life outside the system.‣ Modern technology probably confuses him.‣ He is very forward with his needs and wants. This can be endearing when it's attainable but aggressive when it's a challenge.‣ He only becomes violent or aggressive when he feels someone is being unjust or cruel or careless with life. He has sudden bouts of rage but is still able to make informed decisions and control himself. Again, might be trauma related.‣ He is still a bit morally gray, willing to lie or cheat systems to accomplish what he believes is right on his personal moral compass. Willing to apologize sincerely. Forgives easily.‣ He prefers to live in the moment. This makes him impulsive and chaotic.‣ He is not motivated by money or status. If anything motivates him it's love, family and loyalty.‣ He has courage and is a hard worker. He is determined and hardheaded.‣ He is generally comfortable around trans women.‣ He is not religious or interested in intellectualism, but again this may be due to his difficult childhood.‣ When he deems someone awful enough, he will do anything to degrade them as a form of justice. He is willing to seek revenge. He will play the long game.‣ He is a huge Mama's boy. He is willing to give up love for family.‣ I think he is lonely and desperate for family.‣ He knows how to fight.
